DON'T MISTAKE YOUR JOB FOR YOUR LIFE

As you embark on your quest to achieve your goals, it is very important to clearly understand every term you use - in thought and speech; to always know what you are about in your present space. For many people, their concept of their life is so bound up with the duties of their job that they essentially have no life. They no longer know where their job ends or their life begins.

DEFINE YOUR LIFE'S DUTIES AND YOUR JOB DUTIES

You will be separated from your job
To recognize the full extent of your activities, you have to have clear lines of demarcation as to what are your job duties and what are your life responsibilities. The U.S Social Security Administration estimates that "a man reaching age 65 today can expect to live, on average, until age 84.3 [yrs] and a woman turning age 65 today can expect to live, on average, until age 86.6." Of course they do acknowledge the exceptions to this rule. But why is it that predicting human longevity is contingent on our employment? Because, today,  our personal lives have become basically unrecognizable from our job lives. For many, the end of their jobs is the end of their lives.

A JOB IS ONLY AN INCOME STREAM

I know this topic is rather involved , but I shall address it as best I can. Most people view their jobs as the source of their lives, not their lifestyles. They have confused the perception of a job and of money. The truth is that the reality has never changed. Money has always been a tool to gather the things which fuel your social wants and needs. A job is  really just an income stream to allow you to access money. What has changed is the perception of these two items and their relationship to each other. Consequently, human society has adopted false concepts to accommodate the misunderstanding. When achieving your goals, you have to separate these ideas to prevent them from misdirecting you.

Ninety-one percent (91%) "OF WORKERS WILL HAVE 15 - 20 JOBS IN THEIR  LIFETIME!

Ninety-one percent (91%) "of today's workforce are expected to have 15 - 20 jobs over the course of their working lives!" (https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeannemeister/2012/08/14/the-future-of-work-job- hopping-is-the-new-normal-for-millennials). So, irrespective of your job title, you are considered expendable the minute you enter the door of your current workplace. Your employer knows that your relationship is temporary; do you realize that? Your employer expects you to have other sources of income to support your lifestyle when your current job ends.  As long as those sources do not currently compete directly with theirs, they do not care what you do!

THE EXISTING MISCONCEPTION

The existing misperception that our current jobs determine our lives is primarily because most of us are unaware of this information. We, therefore, dedicate our lives to excelling at our jobs (nothing wrong with dedication!) and build a lifestyle proportionate to the income we receive. Most of us leave no room for unexpected income fluctuations. The sorry truth is: they will come. This is built into the system. Entrenchment, firings, and retirement are all different faces of societal attrition. The most relentless of which is Time.  In time, all these truths will become manifest to you, and, if you are unprepared, the devil takes the hindmost. In striving to achieve your goals, you must be aware of and prepare for this inevitable turn of events

HOW TO PREPARE FOR FUTURE CHANGE

What can you do to prepare for the day when you will be separated from your job, willingly or unwillingly? Retirement, like Death and Taxes, is inevitable in the workplace, but not necessarily in your life. Retirement, separation from employment, does not permanently impact people who are employing themselves in using their own life-skills to generate income. Entrepreneurship is the cure for retirement. Prior to the adoption of the Capitalist employment process, entire societies survived because of it, and still do today. The sooner you begin to engage in entrepreneurial activity, the better prepared you'll be for income change. Then retirement does not have to mean a loss of income or lifestyle. Your life does not have to be over! You can still achieve your goals though "retired".
